The Arts Society (Formerly NADFAS) is a leading arts education charity with a global network of 385 local Societies, which bring people together through a shared curiosity for the arts.
Our events provide welcoming places - locally, nationally and globally - to hear expert lecturers share their specialist knowledge about the arts.
Our 90,000+ members contribute to and preserve our artistic heritage through volunteering and grants. Our strength is our people, joined together by a passion for the arts which can nourish and empower us all. Our work creates a better, healthier and more connected society.

Our vision - the belief that the Arts have the potential to enrich people's lives is at the heart of everything we do. We want to be the most inclusive and influential arts society.

The Monmouthshire Decorative & Fine Arts Society - founded in 2002 - is a member society of The Arts Society. The centre of our activities is Abergavenny.
Our objectives are the promotion and advancement of the aesthetic education of the public, the cultivation, appreciation and study of the decorative and fine arts, and the giving of aid to the preservation of our national heritage for the benefit of the public.
We fulfill our objectives by:-

  • the arrangement of Lectures for Members of the Society.
  • the arrangement of Days of Special Interest, occasional Overseas trips, Outings and visits to private houses, museums, exhibitions and other places of interest for members of the Society.
  • the arrangement of related activities of an Educational character for children and other members of the public.
  • the arrangement of voluntary Preservation and Recording work by its members in relation to the decorative and fine arts.
Membership is open to any adult, but numbers are restriced for practical purposes. We meet on the second Thursday of every month (excluding August) at St Mary's Priory Centre, Abergavenny. Lectures are held promptly at 11.00

to whom we are affiliated - provides MDFAS with its overarching structure, advice, guidance, training, insurance and - most importantly - its list of approved lecturers. Part of the membership fees is paid to The Arts Society to fund these services. We are managed by an annually elected Committee, who are always willing to hear suggestions to improve the activities of the Society.

With inspiring monthly lectures given by top experts in their fields, together with study day events, educational visits and cultural holidays, The Arts Society is a great way to learn, have fun and make new and lasting friendships.

Our logo - the Double Dragon represents Monmouthshire's position as a Marcher county, seeking inspiration from the cultures of both Wales and England.
